1. What is fetchtv?

Fetchtv is TV delivered to your television via your broadband connection.  It is delivered over a closed network and does not touch the open internet.  With fetchtv you get:

  • high quality content from leading providers,
  • delivered straight to the TV (not the PC),
  • in broadcast quality including High Definition (HD) where available and soon to come 3D,
  • ready to view on demand the latest movies and favourite TV shows (no downloading required)
  • the programming is unmetered (downloading content does not count toward your broadband limit)
  • access many popular games and internet based social media applications
  • all at a very affordable price

2. How do I get fetchtv?

You get fetchtv through your broadband service provider once they have signed up to be a fetchtv partner.  Our current partners are iiNet, Internode, Adam Internet and Westnet with more Internet Service Providers joining soon. You can sign up via www.fetchtv.com.au or by contacting your broadband provider.

3. Can I get FetchTV?

Fetchtv is currently in prelaunch mode, and only available to selected customers.  You can register you interest in fetchtv on the home page of www.fetchtv.com.au.

Once fetchtv is more widely available you will need to contact your broadband service provider to find out if they are a fetchtv partner and whether you are in a fetchtv service area.  To do this you can call them, or go to their website and search for fetchtv and follow the link to their serviceability search.

4. How much does fetchtv cost?

We are confident that you'll be pleasantly surprised at how little fetchtv costs compared to other entertainment services. The standard package is only $29.95 per month, with no additional fetchtv set up cost.
The amount you are charged is up to your internet service provider, and how they choose to bundle fetchtv up with their other services. You will find details on their websites - simply click on the ISP logos to get there.

5. Can I watch fetchtv in more than one room?

We are currently developing the capability that will enable you to watch fetchtv in more than one room if you have two set top boxes and adequate bandwidth on your broadband service.  You will need to confirm your situation with your broadband provider

6. Can I still connect my DVD player, game console, home theatre etc?

Yes, when you install fetchtv other home entertainment equipment can remain connected directly to your TV.  Audio equipment can be connected via the STB to support advanced features such as 5.1 surround sound.

7. Do I still need my digital STB for free to air channels?

The fetchtv set top box contains digital tuners that enable you to receive the digital free to air signal, so you will no longer need a separate digital STB once you’ve installed fetchtv.

8. How many hours of TV can I record?

The fetchtv STB can store up to 1025 hours of content.  Approximately 585 hours will be available for you to create recordings (MPEG4SD).
The remaining space will be used to store the fetchtv Video on Command content that you can access at any time.

9. Will fetchtv count toward my broadband download limit?

There is no download metering on any of the TV content, Video On Command or pay per view movies.  Some ISPs may meter some of the interactive applications.  You will need to confirm the situation with your ISP.

10. How fast does my broadband need to be to get fetchtv?

Fetchtv offers a range of service packages depending on available broadband speed:

  • Fetchtv HD delivers the full featured service including high definition content where available & requires a speed of 7.5Mbps or above.
  • Fetchtv delivers the full featured service with all standard definition channels available to users with a speed of 3.5 Mbps or above
  • Fetchtv lite is a less bandwidth intensive service for users with broadband speeds of 1.5 Mbps and above.  It does not include the subscription tv channels or video on command content, but delivers all other elements of the fetchtv service.

Your ISP may refer to the packages by other names

11. What sort of broadband connection do I need to get fetchtv?

To access fetchtv lite you need an ADSL service supplied by one of fetchtv’s ISP partners.

To access the fetchtv and fetchtv HD services you will require an ADSL2+ service or HFC (cable) broadband supplied by one of fetchtv’s ISP partners.

12. If I move house can I take fetchtv with me?

Fetchtv does not require any specialist installation, so you can easily take it with you when you move.  You will need a broadband connection from one of our partner ISPs to use your fetchtv STB in your new house. The usual service qualification will apply to all new broadband connections, and you should check your agreement terms and conditions before changing broadband suppliers.

13. What do I do if I want to change broadband suppliers?

Fetchtv works on broadband services provided by our partner internet service providers (ISPs). If you want to access fetchtv you need to select a broadband supplier that offers fetchtv.   We recommend that you visit the ISPs website and do a check to confirm serviceability before changing suppliers.

14. How do I get fetchtv from my modem to my TV?

There are two ways to connect your modem to your TV:

  1. You can use either an ethernet cable running directly from your modem to your TV or a Powerline Communications (PLC) device.
  2. Alternatively you can use a PLC device.   A PLC enables content to travel from your broadband modem to a power socket and then along existing power cables in your house to another power socket straight to your fetchtv set top box (STB).  The fetchtv STB is then connected to your TV.

Please be aware that a PLC is not an effective solution if you have 3 Phase power.

15. Does fetchtv work on my computer?

Fetchtv is not internet TV and does not travel over the open internet.  It is not available on your computer but it does enable you to access fetchtv applications of popular internet based social media and games on your TV

16. Does fetchtv work on my phone?

Fetchtv is not currently available on your phone.

17. Can I save content from my computer to fetchtv STB?

Currently fetchtv does not enable you to save material from your computer to a fetchtv set top box.

18. Can I save content from my fetchtv STB to my computer?

Currently fetchtv does not enable you to save material from your fetchtv set top box to your computer.

19. Does fetchtv work on a wireless network?

Fetchtv recommends either a direct ethernet connection or connection via a Powerline Communications (PLC) device.  Check with your ISP for confirmation on the type of connections they support.

20. How does the Powerline Communication (PLC) work?

Powerline Communications (PLCs) can be used to distribute a broadband connection throughout a house using the existing electricity wires.  You simply plug one PLC into a power outlet near your modem and connect them using an ethernet cable. You then plug another PLC into a power outlet near your Set Top Box and connect them using another ethernet cable. This provides an effective means of getting the content from the broadband modem to the set top box and onto the TV screen

setup

22. Do I have to buy a fetchtv set top box?

23. Does fetchtv enable me to get internet on my TV?

Fetchtv does not provide internet access to your TV.  It does provide access to interactive applications such as popular social media sites and games.

24. Is fetchtv IPTV?

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television which is the technical name for digital television delivered over internet protocol. So technically fetchtv is IPTV, however it is very different from what most Australians identify as IPTV. The fetchtv delivery method (multicast) enables fetchtv to be delivered in broadcast quality (including high definition) with no degradation of picture quality. It is delivered to the TV not the PC. There are no download delays. Viewing is unmetered so it does not impact on your broadband download limit.

25. What channels can I get with fetchtv?

The basic fetchtv subscription package includes 21 leading subscription channels and Video on Demand content libraries.  Click here for an overview of what you get. fetchtv.com.au

26. How much do movies cost?

There are 30 movies included each month with your monthly fetchtv subscription at no additional cost.
New release movies and library titles from the leading Hollywood studios are available on a Pay per view basis.
The cost of each movie is set by your Internet Service Provider and will simply be added to your normal monthly invoice from them. Current prices are $5.95 for a new release, $6.95 for a HD new release, and $3.95 for a library title.
The great thing is that you only pay for the Movies you select to watch. You don’t have to leave your house to get them, and you don’t have to worry about returning them. It’s that easy.
